Most ways of moving a file from one device to another send it on a long detour. You upload it to a cloud drive or attach it to an email, it travels to a data centre somewhere, and then it travels all the way back to a device that might be sitting on the same desk. Pasa File skips the detour: the two browsers open a direct WebRTC connection and the file crosses your own Wi-Fi or LAN, so the transfer is bounded by your network rather than by your upload speed.

That makes it a practical AirDrop alternative for the pairings that never had one — an Android phone and a Windows laptop, an iPhone and a Linux desktop, a work machine and a personal one. Nothing is installed on either side; both just open this page in a browser. There is no account to create and no history left behind: the room expires within the hour, and the file exists only on the two devices that exchanged it.

What the server does is small and specific. It hands the two browsers the connection details they need to find each other — a step called signaling — and then takes no further part in the transfer. It never receives the contents of your files, their names, or their sizes. The how it works page walks through the whole exchange, including the limits worth knowing about before you rely on it.

Not what this is

  • Not file storage. Nothing is kept — if both browsers close, the file is gone from here.
  • Not a share link you can send now and have someone open tomorrow. Both devices have to be present at once.
  • Not an offline tool. Both devices need internet access to reach this site and be introduced to each other.
  • Not built for files larger than your device's free memory — the receiving browser assembles the file before saving it.

Common questions

Do my files get uploaded to your server?

No. File contents travel directly between the two browsers over a WebRTC data channel. The server is only used to introduce the two devices to each other — it passes the connection details they need, then stays out of the way. It never receives, stores, or forwards the bytes of your file.

Do both devices have to be on the same Wi-Fi?

For the intended experience, yes. Pasa File is built for two devices on the same local network, which is what makes the transfer fast and keeps the data on your own network. The connection is negotiated with public STUN servers and no relay server is configured, so a transfer between two networks will often fail to connect at all.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no artificial cap and no upload quota, but there is a practical limit: the receiving browser collects the whole file in memory before saving it. On a desktop with plenty of free RAM, multi-gigabyte files are fine; on a phone, a very large file can exhaust the tab's memory and fail. If you are moving something enormous, a wired copy is still the better tool.
